Sophomores tour BOCES Career & Technical Education Center

More than five dozen sophomores explored a variety of career pathways available to them through the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical Education (CTE) Center. The students met with faculty and current CTE students in a variety of programs at the Albany Campus, even trying their hand at a few of the skills taught at BOCES.

Abigale Gestring and Shivanie Lakeragh chose to tour the Criminal Justice program and processed a crime scene.

“My dad is a forensic scientist and this is giving me insight into what he does and whether I want to do it,” said Gestring, as she worked with current Criminal Justice student Sahana Rajkumar of Shaker High School.

Calynn McFarland, Eleanor Carbone, Leah Haig and Gracie Redmond tried their hands at washing and styling hair. “I want to do hair for a career and help people feel the best about themselves,” Carbone said.

Corianna Mesick was among numerous students exploring the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Technology program. “Ever since I was young, my biggest dream is to open a restaurant with my grandfather,” she said while preparing a dish.

At Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School, more than 70% of high school students pursue higher education, while many others directly enter the workforce with a highly technical skill set.
