We’re pleased to welcome Officer Andrew D’Aurizio as the new School Resource Officer (SRO) at Bradt and Pinewood. As a dedicated member of our school community, he will work to support student safety and serve as a trusted resource for staff and families at the elementary levels.
“School safety remains our top priority and the addition of an elementary level SRO adds an additional layer to our safety and security resources for our youngest learners,” said Superintendent Shine.
To help everyone get to know Officer D’Aurizio better, we asked him a few questions about his background and what brought him to our district:
Q: What inspired you to become a police officer?
A: Before becoming a police officer, I worked as a behavioral specialist and a counselor. I have always been interested in understanding and helping people, which inspired me to become a police officer. It allows me to utilize those skills and give back to my community.
Q: What drew you to working in a school setting?
A: I have always been drawn to working with kids. Over the years, I’ve been part of the Bike Helmet Program at Bradt where I taught students about bike safety. I’ve worked with the Operation Safe Child program, which provides parents with a child identification card in the event their child goes missing. I also participate in the NYS Child Passenger Safety Program, which allows me to properly install car seats for families, ensuring the safety of children in the community.
I’ve always enjoyed working with these programs because my experience with the youth in the community has brought a lot of joy and meaning to my career. The opportunity to become a SRO allows me to give back to my community in the best way possible.

Q: What does a typical day look like for you as an SRO?
A: My goal as the SRO is to ensure that all buildings are secure and safe so every student can focus on learning and having fun, and every teacher and administrator can focus on teaching and caring for the students.
During the school day, I will be available at both Bradt and Pinewood whenever I am needed. I will help build a stronger bond between law enforcement and the youth in the community.
Q: What is one thing you hope students learn from your presence here?
A: I want all students to learn they don’t need to fear police officers, we are normal people just like them. I also want students to know they can talk to me about anything and I am always here to help.
Q: What’s one message you’d like to share with parents and guardians?
A: As a parent in this school district, I understand the importance of making sure your child feels comfortable and safe so they can get the best education possible. I am committed to ensuring that safety everyday.
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not in uniform?
A: I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, sports, traveling and overall just staying active.
Officer D’Aurizio is here to support our students not only in times of need, but also as a mentor and a role model. We’re grateful to have him on our team and look forward to the positive impact he’ll have at Mohonasen.
