On May 20, Mohonasen voters approved a $71.1 million proposed budget for the 2025-26 school year by a vote of 826 (yes) to 378 (no). The budget carries a 5.7% increase in spending over the current year’s budget and will result in a 2.6% tax levy increase, which is within the district’s tax levy limit.
Voters also approved a proposition to purchase four buses: two 35-passenger wheelchair-accessible Type A buses, and two 70-passenger buses, by a vote of 801 (yes) to 399 (no).
The budget supports the District’s ongoing commitment to school safety. As part of this initiative, Mohonasen is investing in a full-time school resource officer (SRO) dedicated primarily to the elementary schools.
“We are very appreciative of the community support for our budget and school buses,” said Superintendent Shannon Shine. “We continue to have one of the lowest per-pupil expenditures within New York State. We have a responsibility to our community to be fiscally responsible, and I believe the current community support recognizes that,” he added.
