Voters approve school budget and buses; Ciampino and Ryan elected to Board

On May 19, Mohonasen voters approved a $77.27 million proposed budget for the 2026-27 school year by a vote of 437 (yes) to 212 (no), a 67.3% approval. The budget carries a 7.77% increase in spending over the current year’s budget and will result in a 3.20% tax levy increase, which is within the district’s tax levy limit.

Voters also approved a proposition to purchase four buses: two 46-passenger wheelchair-accessible Type C buses, and two 70-passenger buses, by a vote of 437 (yes) to 211 (no).

No staffing positions would be eliminated under the proposed budget. The plan also supports the addition of a new special education program at Draper Middle School, reflecting the district’s continued commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.

“We are very appreciative of the community support for our budget and school buses,” said Superintendent Shannon Shine.  “We continue to have one of the lowest per-pupil expenditures within New York State. We have a responsibility to our community to be fiscally responsible, and I believe the current community support recognizes that,” he added.
