At Mohonasen, therapy dogs have become a comforting and familiar presence for students and staff alike. With more than 10 certified therapy dogs visiting regularly across all grade levels, the district has embraced these furry companions as part of its commitment to student wellness and mental health support.
To help everyone get to know these special animals, the district will showcase a new therapy dog each week.
Hunter

Meet Hunter, a two-year-old Goldendoodle who supports students and staff at Draper Middle School. His owner, Kyra Grimsley, is a school counselor at Draper. Known for his playful personality, Hunter often makes students laugh with his goofy antics and wagging tail. Below is a Q&A with Mrs. Grimsley.
Q: How many years has your pup been working at Mohon??
A: Hunter started this year!
Q: What’s the most heartwarming moment you’ve experienced with your therapy dog?
A: Hard to pick just one, he loves to be hugged and held like a little kid, just full of love.
Q: Does your dog have any quirky habits that make people smile?
A: He truly acts like a human. My favorite is when he puts his paws up on the main office conference room windows while I’m in a meeting.
Q: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your therapy dog?
A: Sometimes we just need some unconditional love and snuggles to feel better, no better place to find that than a dog.
Q: How did you know your dog would be a good fit for therapy work?
A: When we brought him home, he always wanted to be with my two girls. He loves kids and wants to be wherever people are.
Q: Does your dog prefer belly rubs or ear scratches?
A: Does he have to choose? He loves them BOTH!
