Pinewood’s Garden Club restores memory garden honoring Maddie Musto

Pinewood’s Garden Club, led by Ms. Williams, has revitalized the memory garden in the school’s courtyard, a space that honors former student Madeline “Maddie” Musto.

Maddie, a kindergartner at Mohonasen, was known as independent and kind. When she was 5, she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain stem tumor, and she passed five days later, on Feb. 8, 2012, surrounded by her family.

After Maddie’s passing, Mrs. Sherman helped start the memory garden as a lasting tribute to her. Through the Garden Club’s work, the space is once again a place where students and staff can reflect and remember.

Maddie’s memory also lives on through the Maddie’s Mark Foundation, which was created to provide “Best Day Evers” to seriously and terminally ill children in the local area. A race is held in her honor each year, and all profit from the race goes directly to the foundation.
