Mohonasen has partnered with the Rotterdam Community Center (RCC) and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to launch a new mobile food pantry serving District families. The program was formally launched at a press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 16, outside the CAT building.

The mobile food pantry will be held every third Wednesday outside the CAT, serving around 60 local families who currently participate in the District’s BackPack Program, a Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY initiative.

For some families in the District, the cost of groceries can be one of the hardest parts of making ends meet. The BackPack Program already helps bridge that gap by sending food home with students over weekends and breaks. The new mobile food pantry builds on that work, giving these same families a reliable, nearby source of groceries without needing to travel far.

The program is made possible through the RCC’s partnership with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY, including a Food Forward Grant, and a van loan from the Sycamore Collaborative. The district is grateful for everyone involved.
