Attendance

A positive attendance record is critical for students to be successful. Parent support on this is essential.

  • Always call the school at (518) 356-8315 if your student is going to be late or absent.
  • Our outgoing number is (518) 356-8399. This is someone trying to reach you.
  • If your student needs to be dismissed early please send them with a note in the morning.
  • You will receive an automated/ prerecorded call if your student is not accounted for.

Written excuses are required within three days.

Students in grades K-12 who are absent from school must submit a written excuse, signed by a parent/legal guardian, within three days of the student’s return to school or their attendance record will permanently reflect an unexcused absence after this time. (In other words, no backdating of excuses will be allowed after these three days.) The excuse should indicate the reason for and the date(s) of the absence.

The difference between “excused” and “unexcused” absences.

Absences, tardiness and early departures will be considered excused or unexcused according to the following standards.

Excused: Absences due to personal illness, illness or death in the family, extreme weather conditions, medical appointments, religious observances, quarantine, required court appearances, music lessons and approved school-sponsored trips or activities.

Unexcused: Any absence that does not fit the above categories, e.g., family vacation, hunting, babysitting, hair cut, obtaining a learner’s permit, oversleeping, etc.

When a student needs to miss school, parents are still asked to notify the school that day by calling the attendance office at (518) 356-8315. Upon their return, students should give their written excuses to their homeroom teacher or the attendance clerk at the start of the school day. A parent or guardian can also email the attendance clerk, Karen Konrad, directly at kkonrad@mohonasen.org. Please call (518) 356-8315 with any questions.

Some families experience difficulty with attendance and we have a school counselor attendance intervention specialist to work with students and their families. You can reach out to 518-356-8317.
