Military father home from deployment surprises Mohonasen students

Bradt kindergarteners thought they were practicing for their upcoming moving up ceremony, but really they had a surprise visit from a mystery reader. Mother of four Mohonasen students, Mrs. Rhodes, read “Hero Dad” by Melinda Hardin, a story about an active-duty father.

But the biggest surprise was a visit from Sgt. 1st Class William C. Rhodes of the Army National Guard – better known as Dad to the four Mohonasen students. After Mrs. Rhodes was finished reading, Mr. Rhodes entered the cafeteria to surprise his four children who were all in attendance: triplet kindergarteners Carson, Langston and Jordyn, and third-grader Jaymon. SFC Rhodes was deployed to Kuwait in June 2022 and has not seen his family since.

After their reunion, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara presented Mr. Rhodes with a flag and a special New York State Assembly citation.
