MHS students shine at SUNY Schenectady Entrepreneurship Competition

On Tuesday, May 20, Mohonasen students enrolled in the MHS entrepreneurship course competed with students from Schenectady High School at SUNY Schenectady in a business pitch competition.

A total of 47 student-run businesses were presented to a panel of 20 judges in a two-round format. In the first round, students pitched their business ideas one-on-one to multiple judges, earning scores that determined eligibility for prize money. Each school awarded prizes to the top three businesses from their district. From Mohonasen, the top businesses were:

  • Hit the Bricks – Dan Abbott
  • Refresh with Rissa – Narissa Allen
  • Magnifique – Ella Obie

These top-performing teams also advanced to the second round of the competition.

In the final round, the top six businesses delivered formal presentations using slide decks in an auditorium setting, judged by a new panel of approximately 15 professionals. Thanks to generous support from First New York Federal Credit Union, prizes were awarded to the top three businesses overall. Mohonasen’s Magnifique, created by Ella Obie, earned 3rd place and a $200 prize.

All participating students demonstrated creativity, professionalism and entrepreneurial spirit.
