Communications

The Mohonasen Central School District website is located at www.mohonasen.org. The website is updated many times throughout each day with stories, news, alerts, reminders. You will also find all teacher webpages, school and administrative contacts as well as the breakfast and lunch menus, important forms, a calendar of district wide and school events, job postings, student and parent resources and much, much more. If you’re looking for something that is not on the website, please e-mail us, or call us at 356-8250 to let us know.

The district also sends text messages and automated phone calls through SchoolMessenger.

The SchoolMessenger system fully replaced School News Notifier (SNN) for district and school communications.

  • In addition to the text messaging and phone calls, the district will continue to send emergency messages via email.
  • Most routine communication from the district and from the schools will be emailed.
  • The phone calls and text message features will be used only for emergencies and for time-sensitive matters, including weather-related school closures or delays.

The district also posts news and information to both Facebook and Twitter.

The district calendar, which is mailed home each summer is full of “news you can use” – along with important calendar dates for the entire school year.

All Mohonasen residents will receive periodic district newsletters, including a special budget edition, which is sent out each spring before the May budget vote. Other important publications for parents include the Code of Conduct, Middle Middle School Success is Required Guide and High School Survival Guide. The most recent versions of these publications can be found here.

How we communicate weather-related announcements

As always, cancellations, delays or early dismissals are posted on the district’s website.

School closings are also announced on the following local TV and radio stations: Channel 6, Channel 9 (YNN), Channel 10, Channel 13, FOX23, WFLY (92.3 FM), WGNA (107.7 FM), WGY (810 AM), WYJB (B95.5), WRVE (99.5 FM), as well as http://timesunion.com and http://www.dailygazette.com.

Closing information will also be sent directly to your email account via the district’s SchoolMessenger system. It will also be sent directly to your cell phone via text message if you have signed up for text message alerts.

It is best to rely on more than one source of information when it comes to weather-related announcements. This is particularly true in situations that involve power outages, which can affect the district’s ability to send electronic notifications. Emergency preparedness agencies have advised that residents have access to a battery-powered radio so that they can receive information if other communication channels are unavailable.
