The Mohonasen Board of Education has adopted a proposed $77.3 million budget for the 2026-27 school year.
The spending plan includes a tax levy increase of 3.2%, which falls within the district’s state-mandated limit. Because the levy does not exceed the cap, the budget requires only a simple majority for voter approval.
Mohonasen residents are encouraged to vote on Tuesday, May 19. Voting will take place in the high school gymnasium from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The proposed budget reflects a $5.6 million increase over the current year, driven primarily by rising instructional and transportation costs. The transportation department continues to face staffing challenges, and is currently with 15 driver vacancies, and is actively recruiting new drivers. Visit the district website for more information.
No staffing positions would be eliminated under the proposed budget. The plan also supports the addition of a new special education program at Draper Middle School, reflecting the district’s continued commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.
In addition to the budget vote, residents will elect two candidates to the Board of Education. Any eligible district resident is welcome to run for one of the open seats. For more information or to obtain a petition, please contact District Clerk Kate Barry at kbarry@mohonasen.org.
Residents are invited to learn more and ask questions about the budget proposal at the public budget hearing and Meet the Candidates Night at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 11, in the high school large group instruction room (LGI).
