Unified Basketball to celebrate Senior Night on May 7
The 2018 Unified Basketball season is well underway at Mohonasen. The Unified Sports program is a collaboration between the New York State Public School Athletic Association (NYSSPHAA) and the Special Olympics. Now in its fifth year at Mohonasen, the interscholastic sports program encourages skill-building, teamwork and sportsmanship for students with and without intellectual disabilities.
There is one remaining home game vs. Ballston Spa on Monday, May 7 at 4:15 p.m. which will include Senior Night. Players participate at a level that matches each individual’s ability. Coaches are Patrick Petty and Graham MacBeth. Assistant coaches are Katie Bartone and Sue Petrosino.
This year, the basketball team is joined by a new Unified Cheerleading team that performs courtside during the game. The Unified Cheerleading team also provides opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities to be part of an athletic team.
