| May 2, 2019

On May 16, two Mohonasen High School seniors will be recognized as part of a select group of the region’s highest achieving student scholars.

Anna Sherman and Ryan Shendler have been invited to represent Mohonasen at the 33nd Annual Scholars’ Recognition Dinner, which will honor top students from more than 80 area high schools. The best part about this much-anticipated event? Each student scholar gets to invite a teacher who has had a significant influence on their education.

For Anna Sherman, that teacher is Jeff Hayes, who teaches English at the high school.

Mr. Hayes has taught me to expand my academic horizons beyond where I am most comfortable and to find joy in the challenge this provides,” said Sherman.

Ryan Shendler selected high school science teacher Dawn Aulita.

“Ms. Aulita is kind, supportive, and encourages hard work. Most importantly, she taught me that learning is not only valuable but can be fun as well,” said Shendler.

Since 1987, the Scholars’ Dinner has been sponsored by CASDA, the Center for School Improvement at the University at Albany School of Education, and other community organizations, to honor the outstanding scholastic achievements of graduating seniors who have demonstrated scholarship, leadership, and service to their schools and communities.
