Late Saturday morning, Nov. 17, school district officials were alerted to threatening messages posted by a Schalmont student to a social media site, in which the student mentioned students and staff at Mohonasen Central School District.

School officials were immediately in contact with law enforcement who, after conducting an investigation and interviewing the student, determined that there is no credible threat to the safety of students and staff at either district.

The Rotterdam Police continue to investigate this as a criminal matter, and the district will not issue further comment on the ongoing investigation.

“’See something, say something’ works, and this is a great example,” said Superintendent Shannon Shine. “I would like to thank those who have helped with this investigation so far; the collaboration between Schalmont and Mohonasen has been outstanding. Safety and security of students and staff remain our top priority.”
