Dear Parents, Faculty and Staff,

The governor approved five regions of the state to begin “Phase Three” reopening today and no region of the state has had COVID setbacks or resurgences preventing them from reopening to a larger and larger extent.  We have only been moving forward across all of New York State.  The growing body of evidence that we can reopen safely is being seen every day in a wide variety of businesses and locations, whether it be Home Depot or local restaurants or dentist offices.  We are learning how to re-engage and how to do it safely.  Even in instances where social distancing and face covering did not happen as required, such as in many places over Memorial Day weekend, there were no corresponding outbreaks from the coronavirus.  With this being said, there are also reports of localized spikes in some parts of the country.  Social distancing and face coverings, in addition to universal precautions such as regular and thorough handwashing, are still warranted.  Some specific updates and items may be found below:

Food Distribution

Regular food distribution of breakfast and lunch meals will be ending on Thursday, June 25.  We are currently gathering information about local food resources for food-insecure households for the summer months and will be distributing this information as soon as it becomes available.  For our households that participate in the Backpack Program, we are exploring how we might continue food distribution (pick-up only) over the summer, likely one time per week.  We are currently reaching out to these families to determine the level of need and we will then plan accordingly.

As the official end of the school year is almost upon us, I intend to provide you with intermittent future written updates in proportion with any new guidance or news regarding the reopening of school in the fall or any other important Mohonasen-related information.  Should you have further questions that cannot be addressed at the building level, please feel free to contact me either by email,, or by phone, 518-356-8200.

I leave you with the following quote which is at the bottom of every work email I send, a quote by John Wesley, one of the co-founders of the Methodist church.  I use this quote to remind me of the good things I ought to do and to encourage others similarly.  I cannot recall a situation so bleak whereas one has no opportunity to do further good in this world, but I can recall times where I lost sight of this truth and needed a reminder or some encouragement.  During this pandemic situation, I suspect others have also needed encouragement or reminding in this regard and I have attempted to edify and encourage you through my updates and by celebrating the numerous instances of good being done with, to, and among, our students and the Mohon Community.  Please consider the following imperative,

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” — John Wesley

Always Mohon Proud,

Shannon Shine
