| December 16, 2016

On Friday, Dec. 16, Mohonasen High School students in Amy Stott’s family and consumer sciences course participated in an annual tradition — holiday-themed cupcake wars, an event that challenges students to combine innovating thinking with their kitchen expertise.

Students were required to prepare cupcakes and frosting from scratch while incorporating one of three holiday-themed ingredients including candy canes, eggnog or cranberries. The students were also tasked with substituting at least one traditional baking ingredient for a healthier one.

Faculty, staff, administrators and former FACS students served on a panel of guest judges for the competition and rated each of the cupcakes on their appearance, taste and use of ingredients. Cupcakes from the “Kitchen 2” group took home the winning accolades by only two points in a close battle.
