Solar array construction begins
After years of planning and paperwork, construction on the solar array on the land between the Center for Advanced Technology and the New York State Thruway is now well underway.
The 1,500 kW array is being built through a Power Purchase Agreement under the state’s K-12 solar initiative. It is being completed by Tesla, formerly SolarCity and should be fully operational by mid-July.
Because of the Power Purchase Agreement, the district is not responsible for construction costs. Instead, the district is able to purchase the electricity generated at a reduced rate. This will result in a savings of more than $50,000 to the district annually.
