Congratulations to Senior Kunika Chahal, who was awarded the prestigious Student Courage Award by the Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King Lecture Series on Race and Nonviolent Social Change Advisory Board.
The award was presented during a Jan. 15 ceremony at Siena College.
The Courage Awards recognize students in the Capital Region who have demonstrated personal courage by taking positive action against racism, prejudice, bias-related violence and other forms of intolerance in their respective communities.
A selection committee comprised of interested government, business and civic leaders select the winners based on the contributions of the nominees in addressing intolerance in any form. Kunika was nominated for her “compassion, commitment and dedication to social change at Mohonasen High School” by Peers for Peace Adviser Diane Blinn.
