Ryan, Young, Abbott elected to board

Mohonasen residents approved the district’s 2018-19 school budget with 698 yes votes and 368 no votes, a margin of 65 percent.

Voters also approved a proposition to purchase three full-size, 72-passenger buses and three 33-passenger buses. A total of 749 voted in favor and 320 voted against, a margin of 69 percent.

Residents elected incumbents Patrick Ryan (773 votes) and Pamela Young (723 votes) as well as newcomer Wade Abbott (645 votes) to the Board of Education. Newcomer Morgan Beach received 492 votes. Candidates ran at-large and were elected to unpaid, three-year terms that begin on July 1.

“Even though we had to make tough decisions and ended up cutting teaching positions as well as an administrative position, our intent was to balance the cuts and maintain the important structures that help us continue to move forward and rebuild once we have the ability to,” said Superintendent Dr. Kathleen A. Spring. “We appreciate everyone who came out to vote today, and we are encouraged by the community’s continued support of our schools.”
