Polls open till 9 p.m. for school budget vote, bus proposition, board elections
The annual School District Budget Vote takes place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 15, at the Mohonasen High School gym. Mohonasen residents will vote on a $53.1 million budget proposed for the 2018-19 year.
Under the proposal, spending for next school year would increase by 4.17 percent while keeping the tax levy increase at 3.21 percent, which is at the district’s limit – or cap – as calculated by the state formula. (Read more about the proposed spending plan.)
In addition, voters will elect three members of the Board of Education. Candidates include, in ballot order, Morgan Beach, Pamela Young, Wade Abbott and Patrick Ryan. (Learn more about the candidates.)
Voters will also decide on a proposition to purchase three full-size, 72-passenger buses and three 33-passenger buses at a total cost of $470,000. (Read more about the bus purchase proposition.)
Voter eligibility
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. on May 15 in the Mohonasen High School gym (use the entrance at the front of Mohonasen High School).
You are eligible to vote if you are a U.S. citizen, 18 years old or older and a resident of the school district for at least 30 days prior to the vote.
