Real heroes made an appearance at Pinewood Elementary School this summer. Six members of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) visited Pinewood’s Summer Stars program to share their stories and experiences with the third, fourth and fifth graders.
Students learned about the different branches of the military and a variety of experiences from working as a medic to performing kitchen duty. This final presentation concluded a summer theme of Making the Impossible Possible. Each child got to see a Puppet People show, experience a visit from the Utica Zoo and see old time inventions from the museum of interesting things.
Summer Stars students also worked on their academic skills by completing a research project and sharing their new skills.
