At Mohonasen, it is very important that students feel safe and comfortable riding to and from school on the bus. The bus can be a place where behavior problems sometimes occur. The Peaceful School Bus Program is a whole-school preventive-based program, designed to teach students how to build and maintain a “peaceful school bus.”
On Thursday, Oct. 4, Pinewood bus drivers visited students in their classrooms and with the help of faculty and staff, talked with them about important safety rules of the bus, discussed appropriate behavior and voice levels, and highlighted the importance of using kind words while on the bus. The students worked together in small groups to identify behaviors that should be “kept on” the bus or “left off” the bus.
“The program is intended to build community and foster a connection between the bus, school, and home,” said School Counselor Amy Stannard. “It provides us with greater opportunity to remind students of our bus rules which are rooted in safety.”
The Peaceful Bus Rules are:
Stay in your seats at all times
Always respect others, the bus driver, and the bus
Flinging things in or out of the bus is not allowed
Eating and drinking is not allowed on the bus
Talking quietly; no hurtful words
You are responsible for your actions
Please take a few minutes to discuss the Peaceful School Bus program with your child. Parents are very important partners in helping to promote a positive community on the bus.
