Mohonasen Central School District will soon welcome a new principal to the district as she joins the administrative team at Bradt Primary School.

Leslie Smith has been named principal at Bradt. She comes to Mohonasen from the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District, where she served as principal for Berne-Knox-Westerlo Elementary School. She previously worked as assistant principal for Ballston Spa Middle School and served in teaching and instructional coaching roles in a number of schools around the Capital Region, Central and Western New York.

Smith’s appointment follows current Bradt Principal Michele Whitley’s maternity leave from the district. Whitley will rejoin Mohonasen’s administrative team upon her return.

Smith received her associate of applied science degree in early childhood development from the State University of New York at Cobleskill and a bachelor of science degree in elementary education with a concentration in English from the State University of New York at Oswego. She received certifications as a school building leader and a school district leader from The College of St. Rose.

She will begin in her new position on Oct. 21. Superintendent Kathleen Spring shared that Smith is eager to begin her work at Mohonasen.

“She was touched by the enthusiasm, warmth and caring for children that was so apparent at Bradt,” Dr. Spring said. “We are thrilled to welcome Leslie to the Bradt and Mohonasen families.”
