Members of the Mohonasen High School National Honor Society helped to fundraise for St. Baldrick’s, a foundation that raises awareness and supports research for childhood cancer, and many participants were inspired by friends, colleagues and family members who have fought their own battles against cancer.

Student, faculty and Mohonasen community participants volunteered at a fundraising event at the Westmere Fire Department in Guilderland on Sunday, March 20, following efforts to collect spare change and online donations over several weeks for the cause. MHS math teacher Rob Higgins, Board of Education president Robert Piccirillo and students Zach Gandrow, Justin Hess and Tim Zarecki each “Braved the Shave” during the event and shaved their heads to further childhood cancer awareness. Mohonasen’s National Honor Society team contributed an impressive $1,500 to the $80,000 raised at the event.
