Two Mohonasen High School student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent on Tuesday, April 28, to play Division I athletics next fall. Seniors Cara Sherman and Elyse Piseczny officially declared their intentions in front of family, friends, faculty and staff during the special signing event held at the high school.

Cara Sherman

Senior Cara Sherman earned a partial scholarship to the University at Albany where she will study science and join the cross-country and track and field teams. Her athletic achievements include holding the school record in more than 10 track and field events, placing first in the indoor 3000m sectionals, being named a Channel 13 Athlete of the Week and Suburban Council Athlete of the Week, serving as part of the Suburban Council All-Star Cross-Country Team, placing third in the 2014 Cross Country sectionals and becoming part of the Class B Section 2 winning state team.

Elyse Piseczny

Senior Elyse Piseczny earned a partial scholarship to the University of Buffalo where she will study physical therapy and serve on the swimming and diving team. Piseczny has been a member of Mohonasen-Schalmont’s swimming and diving varsity team since the eighth grade. She holds the school record for the 200 free relay, 6 dives and 11 dives. She consistently qualified for states as a diver since 2012, and also qualified previously in the 200 free relay swim. Elyse qualified for diving this year at the state level.
