Mohonasen residents approved the district’s 2020-21 school budget with 1,356 yes votes and 661 no votes, a margin of 67 percent.

Voters also approved a proposition to purchase three full-size, 70-passenger buses and two eight-passenger Suburbans. A total of 1,352 voted in favor and 665 voted against, a margin of 67 percent.

Residents elected incumbents Lisa Gaglioti (1,576 votes) and Stacy MacTurk (1,558 votes), who have both previously served on the Board of Education. Candidates ran at-large and were elected to unpaid, three-year terms that begin on July 1.

“Thank you to our community for supporting next year’s budget, especially in this time of pandemic uncertainty,” Superintendent Shannon Shine said. “With New York’s ongoing budget challenges, we are eagerly waiting on the federal government to help the state cover its COVID-related expenses, and our hope is that public schools will be at the front of the line for such assistance.”
