Mohonasen Foundation Donates $20,000 to District
The Mohonasen Foundation for Excellence has donated $20,000 to the Rotterdam-Mohonasen Central School District to help support students and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funds received by the district will allow teachers and district officials to purchase items to improve virtual and on-site learning, including computer monitors, cameras, speakers, and personal protective equipment (PPE). These items will support teaching and learning during this difficult time as well as be useful moving forward for years to come.
“The Mohonasen Foundation for Excellence believes in the strength and resiliency of the Mohonasen school community,” said Paula Marshman, foundation president. “Knowing that we are in an extraordinary time, the Board of Directors is providing this grant to make an impactful difference to positively benefit the students in our school district.”
The Mohonasen Foundation for Excellence is a certified 501c3 nonprofit entity that promotes excellence in education by generating and distributing financial and other resources to the district for innovative programs that enhance the quality of education by providing educational opportunities for all students, supporting staff development, and promoting school-community partnerships. The foundation is solely run by volunteers and relies on donations from individuals and community organizations.
“We are extremely grateful for the foundation’s continued support of our students and faculty,” said Laurel Logan-King, assistant superintendent for curriculum & instruction. “Since 1998, the foundation has awarded more than $200,000 to the district in response to grant applications, which help us support innovative programs and address many needs – all of which improve the learning experience of our students.”
The foundation hosts an annual golf tournament as its main fundraising event and welcomes donations throughout the year. There are many other ways to support the students and faculty at the Mohonasen Central School District through the foundation: honor someone special, payroll deduction, the GE Matching Grant Program, bequests, memorials and more.
