Mohonasen will be closed on Tuesday, March 14, due to Schenectady County’s emergency declaration closing the roads to non-essential traffic. Stay safe and send your snow day pictures to communications@mohonasen.org!

Message from Superintendent Shine;

Dear Parents, Faculty, and Staff,

I recently received notification from Schenectady County Manager, Rory Fluman, that he is declaring a state of emergency for Schenectady County starting tonight at 10 PM and extending through tomorrow ending at 5 p.m.  This order effectively closes Mohonasen tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14, 2023, as it does not allow for parent vehicles, faculty/staff vehicles, or school buses to be traveling on our county streets during that timeframe.  Emergency vehicles and snow removal are exceptions.  Mr. Fluman’s order may be found here, Schenectady County State of Emergency Declaration.

I have been asked what this emergency closing day (aka “snow day”) will mean for dates in May surrounding Memorial Day Weekend or other dates on this year’s calendar.  While it is too early to determine that conclusively, as we may yet have additional emergency closing days which would need to be taken into account, I can update folks as to where we currently stand.  Thus far this year we have utilized two emergency closing days and as such school will be in session May 25th and 26th.  A third day’s impact would have to be discussed and has not been determined ahead of time; however, tomorrow’s closing, if I am reading the regulations correctly, would NOT be counted as a third day for Mohonasen as the state, in this case Schenectady County in particular, is essentially ordering the emergency closure by declaring a state of emergency and not allowing our vehicles on the road.

Shannon Shine, Superintendent
