Girls who have a love of golf and are interested in making Mohonasen history can do so now because the high school is forming a Girls Varsity Golf Team for the first time.
While girls have played on the varsity boys team in the past, the high school has never had girls varsity golf.
“It’s a great opportunity for young women to join a team of their own and play a lifelong sport on a varsity level,” said Scott Sabourin, a Mohonasen teacher and varsity boys golf coach. “They will be joining a growing list of Section 2 schools who are adding girls golf to their athletic departments.”
Sabourin is acting as the interim head coach as the district conducts a search for a girls team coach.
The first practice for girls in Grades 9 to 12 will take place on Aug. 24 (time TBD) at Schenectady Municipal Golf Course, 400 Oregon Ave., Schenectady.
Those interested can email coach Sabourin at email@example.com, or call or text him at 518.527.5456.
Home matches and practices will be held at Schenectady Muni. Opponents will vary and cross into other councils because of the limited number of schools in the Colonial Council that have varsity girls teams.
