On Thursday, May 28, Mohonasen High School held a mock DWI crash. The goal of the approximately 30 minute presentation was to raise student awareness about drunk and distracted driving prior to prom, ball and graduation season.

To help the event feel like a reality it featured Mohonasen student actors in makeup and members of the Carmen Fire Department, Rotterdam Fire District #2, the Rotterdam Emergency Medical Service, the Rotterdam Police and representatives from De-Marco-Stone Funeral Home.

Students in grades 11 and 12 viewed the event live while students in grades 9 and 10 viewed it via televisions in their classrooms. Because the event contained graphic content that could be difficult for some students, counselors are being made available for any student who needs assistance.

Parents are urged to talk to their children about thoughts or feelings they may have as a result of these events. Additionally, this is a good time for parents to remind their student drivers about making safe choices behind the wheel.

The Mohonasen junior/senior ball will be held on Friday, June 5 at Birch Hill Schodack Landing.
