MHS Summer Reading 2018 – Letter, Grades 9-12

Dear Students:

For success in High School English, we strongly recommend that you read during the summer. Summer reading helps you to continue thinking critically and beyond yourself. Reading entertains, informs, stimulates, and challenges. It takes you to new worlds of thought, experience, and imagination.

We have chosen a variety of titles that appeal to a wide range of reading abilities, interests, and maturity levels. Synopses of all suggested literature are included. We ask that you, along with your parents, choose a book/s of interest that will be appropriate for you. In addition to perusing the books, reviews in print or on the Internet will give more information about most of the titles. You should read at least two selections from the list provided. We have also provided you with a sheet to help you track your thoughts as you read.  One of the first assignments of the year will utilize your summer reading books and the tracking sheet. You will be able to use your sheet to assist you with the assignment.
