Student Anna Sherman poses for photoMohonasen High School ninth grader Anna Sherman has been admitted into the Rising Star Internship through the Dudley Observatory of Schenectady. Anna was chosen, alongside 14 students from around the area, from a pool of over 60 Capital District students. She was admitted based on her essay addressing why astronomy is important to her.

The internship program teaches participants how to navigate the night sky, operate a telescope and the science concepts related to the stars, nebulae and galaxies that can be observed from their own backyards. The internship will begin this summer and continue through next May. Anna will attend monthly learning and observatory sessions during her time in the program. Upon fulfillment of internship requirements, Anna will be awarded with her own telescope so that she will have the equipment, knowledge and experience to share her expertise with family, friends and the community.

In addition to her internship, Anna is actively involved in Mohonasen’s orchestra, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the varsity track and field and cross-country teams.
