Fifth Grade teachers from Pinewood planned to wear matching “kindness” T-shirts every Monday throughout the remainder of the school year. Now, school administrators are opening the opportunity to students grades 3 through 4, too.
The shirts, designed by fifth grader Ava Thompson, are designed to bring some additional “sunshine and school spirit” to close out a very difficult and unprecedented school year, Pinewood Principal Jason Thompson said.
Ava’s design was selected by a committee after an in-school competition. It depicts a piece of pie accompanied by the words, “Have a slice of kindness pie” and “Be Pinewood Proud.”
Shirts are on sale for $10 for those who want to participate, and you can order them here. Checks can be sent in to school with students, dropped off at the school or mailed to Pinewood Intermediate School, 901 Kings Road, Schenectady, NY 12303.
Proceeds from the sale of the shirts will support end-of-year activities, including field day and the annual carnival, Mr. Thompson said. He added that students can wear the T-shirts any day of the school week, but teachers will be wearing theirs on Mondays.
Toward the end of the school year, fifth graders will receive a second T-shirt to commemorate their years at Pinewood. Those shirts will be provided free of charge by the PTO.
