For Grade 8 Families:
I am very excited to announce our Grade 8 Moving Up Ceremony plans for June. A committee of students, parents, and teachers met in May to brainstorm the best way to celebrate our Grade 8 students safely. While there will certainly be more information to come, here are initial details, dates and times. See the bottom of this letter for details regarding our Grade 8 picnic.
Moving Up Ceremonies:
We will celebrate the Grade 8 students in small cohorts in the High School Auditorium, organized alphabetically by last name, on June 18 and June 21. We must split the grade into eight cohorts in order to meet the Department of Health indoor capacity mandate. Schools currently have much more strict capacity guidelines compared to places like restaurants.
There will be four ceremonies on both the 18th and the 21st. Our goal is for each ceremony to last no more than one hour. In order to meet the Department of Health guidelines mentioned above, each student may have two guests maximum attend. There are no exceptions to this policy. Each mini-ceremony will be livestreamed for students and guests who are unable to attend.
In-person students should plan to attend school on the day they are scheduled to be recognized. All-remote students who plan to attend their ceremony may come with their guests at their designated ceremony time. Guests should arrive to the auditorium no later than the designated ceremony start time. Seats will be organized in pods of three in the auditorium. Each pod will be distanced at least six feet from other pods, as per DOH mandate.
Students will travel from Draper to the auditorium where they will find their parents/guests and sit in that pod. Each ceremony will consist of a brief speech from me and a student from the attending cohort. Students will then be called up to walk across the stage to pick up their certificate. If the student received any end of year academic awards, they will be announced during this time as well.
After the ceremony, guests will have the opportunity to take pictures outside. All families must depart campus at least a half hour prior to the next ceremony so that the incoming group can park and enter the auditorium. A parent/guardian may sign their child out after the ceremony, or the child can return to Draper for the remainder of the day. The auditorium seats will be sanitized between ceremonies.
Moving Up Ceremony RSVP Google Form – Each family must complete the Moving Up Ceremony RSVP Form for their child. One RSVP Form only should be completed for each student. The person who completed the RSVP Form will designate the two guests who will be attending the ceremony. The Form was emailed to all parents via SchoolMessenger on May 17. The RSVP Form must be completed by June 11. Only guests who are identified on the RSVP Form will be allowed to attend the ceremony.
Moving Up Ceremony Schedule:
8 a.m.: Last name Albanese through Campagnano
10 a.m.: Last name Carner through Devoe
12 p.m.: Last name DiCocco though Harrington

10 a.m.: Last name Merrill through Price
12 p.m.: Last name Provost through Szesnat

In order to maintain balanced cohorts and be fair to all, students cannot change ceremony cohorts.
Other Important Moving Up Details:
– All attendees must wear a mask.
– All attendees must complete a health attestation on the day they attend and show proof of completion before entering the auditorium. The digital version of the attestation can be found at the top of the Mohonasen district webpage. Paper copies will be available at the auditorium entrance.
Grade 8 Picnic:
We are thrilled to be able to offer a Grade 8 Funday from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 5. The event will be held outdoors on the athletic fields behind Draper. The cost is $20, which covers food (burgers, fries, snow cones, etc), and a number of fun activities (bounce house obstacle course, dunk tank, photo booth, and more). The event is for Draper Grade 8 students only. Tickets must be purchased online using the link provided in my May 17 email to all Grade 8 parents. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “8th Grade Celebration” to purchase tickets. Tickets must be purchased by May 28. If paying the $20 fee is a limiting factor, let me know. We do not want the cost of admission to keep any student from attending.
Masks must be worn for the duration of the event. We hope this is a great opportunity for our 8th graders to have an “almost normal” celebration before heading to high school. If you are interested in chaperoning the picnic, please let me know.
