Teacher holds up music booksJason Varga, a music teacher at Draper Middle School, recently authored “Kendor Debut Solos,”
a series of French horn music books designed for beginning musicians.

Last summer, Mr. Varga was approached by Kendor Music, an internationally recognized music publisher known for its critically acclaimed string orchestra and instrumental solo and ensemble works, to produce a series of music books. He spent the rest of his summer researching the music, creating arrangements and preparing the finished product, which was released in December.

Mr. Varga’s works include a mix of popular melodies and folk songs curated from around the world. He worked alongside Carl Strommen, a composer and professor at Long Island University’s C.W. Post campus, in editing and arranging piano accompaniment for the books.

“Writing music is something that I have always wanted to do, and I’ve written the music for the marching band here since 2005,” Mr. Varga said. “This is a great new chapter for me.”

The series is currently available for purchase from most online print music retailers.
