| February 8, 2016

Eighth-grade students at Draper Middle School will participate March 18 in “Passport to Your Future,” a daylong, career-focused field trip to Schenectady County Community College.

Students will have the opportunity to listen to a presentation by a keynote speaker and attend four different career sessions during which guest speakers will discuss their occupations and industries. Participating students will receive personalized schedules that assign them to career sessions that match the results of career interest inventories they completed at school earlier in the year. Following the field trip, all students will complete a reflection piece on their experiences to further their career exploration.

The event aims to excite students about potential future careers, Draper guidance counselors say. But students should view the day seriously, as it will be an exposure to the professional world. A letter from the guidance office (PDF) explains important dress code information for the day, as well as lunch options for students.

All students must turn in a permission slip (PDF) to their homeroom teachers by Friday, March 11. The guidance counselors are seeking 21 chaperones for the event, and interested parents can indicate their availability on their child’s permission slip.
