District outlines proposed budget, hears from board candidates at budget hearing-May 8
District officials outlined the proposed 2017-18 school budget during a public hearing on Monday, May 8. Residents also heard from Stacy MacTurk, one of two candidates vying for two at-large seats on the Board of Education, during the Meet the Candidates Night event. (See Mrs. MacTurk’s answers to questions.)
Due to a family emergency, the second candidate, Lisa Gaglioti, was unable to attend Monday’s Meet the Candidates Night event. Mrs. Gaglioti answered the same questions as Mrs. MacTurk at the district office on Thursday. (See Mrs. Gaglioti’s answers to questions.)
Mohonasen residents will go to the polls on Tuesday, May 16 to vote on a $50.94 million budget proposed for the 2017-18 year. Under the proposal, spending for next school year would increase by 5.32 percent while keeping the tax levy increase at 2.83 percent, which is below the district’s state-set limit – or “cap” – of 6.03 percent.
Residents will also decide on a bus purchase proposition.
