| February 8, 2018

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Mohonasen bus driver David Peck, who died earlier this week after a fall outside his home. Dave was a valuable member of the Mohonasen transportation department where he worked for the past 14 years. Most recently he drove a daily run for the middle school/high school and Bradt, as well as a late bus for Pinewood. He also frequently transported students to sports games and field trips.

Dave came into contact with many of our students on a daily basis, and we understand this news may be upsetting. We wanted you to be aware of his passing so that you have an opportunity to talk with your child. Please know that counselors are available to help students and staff deal with this unexpected loss.

Children grieve in different ways; some may be very upset while others may exhibit seemingly inappropriate responses. Even if your child has not had direct ties to Mr. Peck, they still may be upset by this event. Please give your child(ren) an opportunity to express their feelings and contact your school principal if there is any concern about your child’s response.

You can find resources to help children deal with grief on the district’s Children and the Grieving Process webpage.

Dave was a true gentleman who was always willing to help out where needed. He will be greatly missed.
