| May 10, 2016

If the proposed budget is approved on May 17, Mohonasen would add more than 20 positions district-wide. Some are staff for the Center for Advanced Technology, others address specific issues in the district. Here’s a rundown of the positions:

District Staffing

3.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) (Bradt). These teacher positions will address class size issues due to an anticipated enrollment increase.

3.0 FTE (Pinewood). These positions address class size at all three grade levels (3-5). One additional position will be reallocated from sixth grade, where enrollment is expected to drop in 2016-17.

3.0 FTE Teacher Assistants and up to 1.5 FTE Special Education Teachers*. The district will review its Academic Intervention and Special Education Services to determine the most effective use of staff. “We have seen a rise in students who have significant special education needs,” said Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Spring. “This staffing increase will enable the district to best meet the needs of a changing population.”

0.5 FTE Administrator. This allocation includes 0.5 FTE for Pinewood, which would make Pinewood’s assistant principal position full-time. “We have seen an increase in behavioral issues and in discipline referrals at Pinewood. Restoring the assistant principal position to full-time will enable that person to focus on behavioral challenges. The school’s principal can then put greater focus on instruction as well as meet increased accountability mandates at the grades 3-5 levels,” said Spring.

1.3 Clerical. The district will reinstate positions cut in previous years, including 0.3 FTE in the business office and 1.0 FTE at the high school office.

Staffing for the new Center for Advanced Technology

1.0 FTE Technology Teacher. The district will add sections of technology classes to meet a growing demand.

0.5 FTE Administrator for the Center for Advanced Technology; Capital Region BOCES will fund a second half-time administrator.

2.0 FTE Monitors. These employees will provide security coverage during hours the building is open.

2.0 FTE Cleaners. These employees will maintain the building on a daily basis.

1.0 FTE Computer Technician. This position will address technology needs at the new Center.

1.0 FTE Clerical/Receptionist.  The cost of this position will be shared by Mohonasen and Capital Region BOCES.

1.0 FTE Health Office Assistant. This position will provide coverage at the Center. This is particularly important given the nature of the classes that will be housed the Center.

*Final staffing levels will be determined following services review.
