Bradt launches “One School One Book” Program
On Tuesday, March 1, Bradt kicked off its One School One Book program with a school-wide virtual livestream announcing that the whole school community will learn about the adventures of Flat Stanley together this month.
The oldest child from each Bradt family came home with a copy of the book on March 1. This copy of Flat Stanley is for your family to keep as a gift from Bradt School. A letter that went home with students includes a reading calendar that will be followed school-wide. Generally you will be asked to read one chapter per week. Families will also have the opportunity to listen to chapters of the book that have been pre-recorded by various faculty and staff from Bradt School. These recordings can be found on the Bradt School’s Library website https://sites.google.com/mohonasen.org/bradt-library/home.
The text of the One School One Book program letter is below, but first please enjoy the One School One Book (OSOB) shared with students on the first.
Bradt One School One Book Letter
March 1, 2022
Dear Bradt Families,
We are excited to launch our “One School One Book” reading program. Participating in a school-wide reading program such as “One School One Book” helps build a community of readers and a sense of belonging within our school. Families reading together help children listen better and longer, build bigger vocabularies, and develop a positive attitude about books and learning. Reading professionals recommend that families read aloud to children even when they are able to read by themselves. When an entire school reads together, it generates excitement about reading and being a part of a fun program.
The book Flat Stanley and the OSOB program was revealed during our school wide virtual live stream today. The oldest child from each Bradt family will be coming home with a copy of the book today. This copy of Flat Stanley is for your family to keep as a gift from Bradt School. On the backside of this letter is the reading calendar that will be followed school-wide.
In school, your child will be invited to answer daily trivia questions to encourage and reward attentive, aggressive listening. You will soon find that your child will take pride in knowing and anticipating the details of the story. In classrooms, there may be various activities which discuss or explore the book. You will want to make sure that your family keeps up with the readings, so your child can be included. Throughout the month, everyone will be talking about the book.
In classrooms students will be making a Flat Stanley of their own. We encourage families to take Flat Stanley with them on “short trips” and to take pictures of him in the community. For example, Flat Stanley loves visiting parks, restaurants and grocery stores, as well as visiting your family and friends in other states. Families can email these pictures to onebradtonebook@gmail.com. These pictures will be added to our OSOB Program bulletin board which is located outside of the Bradt School library.
We hope you’ll enjoy this special reading time with your children and look forward to sharing this experience with you and your student. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY READING!
