mohonallstarsAn impressive 20 Mohonasen students were accepted to participate in the Zone 7 Area All-State Music Festival Nov. 18 and 19 at Saratoga Springs High School.

“This is a great honor for our school,” said Mohonasen Performing Arts Facilitator Kimberly Kondenar.

More than 50 high schools from the greater Capital Region were represented as students performed in a band, chorus, full orchestra and jazz ensemble. Students selected to the Area All-State are some of the finest musicians in their school and have all received very high solo performance scores at recent NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble festivals.

Acceptance to Area All-State is based primarily on NYSSMA Solo scores and teacher recommendation. Students in these select ensembles spent four hours during the afternoon Friday, Nov. 18 and four hours Saturday, Nov. 22 to prepare for an afternoon concert. Students worked under the guidance of some of the most renowned guest conductors from the Northeast region of the country.

The weekend culminated with a concert at Saratoga Springs High School on Nov. 19.
