Here's Our Weather Station

This is our roof. When someone is standing on the roof near the weather station, this is what they see. The weather station is mounted on the back corner of the roof over the fifth grade wing. The anemometer is whirring away. The wind was blowing approximately 6 mph when this picture was taken.

In this picture, Mr. Klugman is cleaning out our rain gauge. Do you see all the wires running down the pipe? These wires are connected to the computer in the 5th grade classroom below. From there the data goes to WeatherBug in Gaithersburg, Maryland. At WeatherBug, their computers store the data and we get to see it on their awesome Web pages. Here's what the rain gauge looks like when it is taken apart for cleaning. The black plastic piece is like a seesaw. When one side fills up with water and gets heavy enough, that side dumps down. Then the other side fills up, and so on. Each time the seesaw dumps, another 1/100th (or 0.01) inch of rainfall gets recorded.
