Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR)
Alternative Evaluations

Overview

The overall goal of annual professional performance review is to ensure continuous professional growth of all teachers while documenting accountability, pedagogical skill, and service. Our traditional yearly evaluation process, based on Charlotte Danielson's Framework for Teaching Observation Program, provides an excellent means for this purpose. However, for some teachers, when used year after year, the process can become routine, and with routine there is tendency for loss of growth potential.

Are you interested in trying something new this year?

1. Watch our awesome APPR infomercial if you haven't already.
2.  Start reflecting on the questions posed in the video. (link to text script available in right hand column)
3. Craft a measurable professional goal regarding an area for growth. It's imperative that growth toward the defined goal translates to positive change in classroom practice, and that positive change in classroom practice, in turn, translates to improved student achievement. In addition, ensure that the defined goal reflects one or more domains from Danielson
4. Find a supportive administrator and develop a Professional Evaluation Proposal. (see form)
5. Present your proposal to APPR. (Send or email proposals to Lin Severance lseverance@mohonasen.org ). APPR will then schedule a date with you for proposal presentation.
6. Once your proposal is accepted, work with your administrator throughout the year, creating and carrying out your plan.
7. Prepare and submit your summative report.

Remember: All Professional Evaluation Pilots are subject to final approval by the Superintendent of Schools.

What is the ESSENCE of our Alternative APPR purpose?

The process facilitates teacher growth beyond current levels of performance in a teacher-defined area that directly impacts student achievement. An Alternative APPR project stimulates teacher creativity and collaborative efforts that result in application to classroom practice that translates to improved student achievement.
