ELA 6: We are currently reading two different novels, The Joker and Top Fin. Both novel groups are working on comprehension strategies and answering detail, sequencing, cause and effect, and main idea questions to improve reading comprehension. The class continues to work on linguistic rules for decoding and spelling. We are now in the plural possessive lessons in grammar.
ELA 7/8: This ELA class is currently reading the novel, Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls. We will continue to work on reading comprehension strategies with this novel as indicated above. The class will also complete an essay and project involving a specific dog breed that they have chosen as their final project to go along with this novel.
Project Read is part of our curriculum in which we review decoding and cutting patterns for larger words to read independently. The five step syllabication process is reviewed and applied when decoding and spelling words.
