Did you know that one cup of whole milk has as much artery clogging saturated fat as one hot dog, five strips of bacon, a Snickers candy bar, or a fast food hamburger?
After analyzing milk fat percentages in class, Draper seventh-grade Family and Consumer Science (FACS) students initiated a “1% or less” campaign on Tuesday, March 27 in the school’s cafeteria. The students posted informational posters around the school and in cafeteria lines, promoting the healthier choice of 1 percent and skim milk over 2 percent and whole milk.
Typically, the cafeterias end up throwing away skim milk, because there would not be enough students buying it. On March 27, 200 skim milks were set out for students to choose during lunch, and within two days, all of the skim milks were purchased!
