Bradt and Pinewood
libraries were awarded $1,500 each in BOCES School Library Services School Library Mini Grants.
“The purpose of the grant was to update library collections,” said Linda Fox, BOCES School Library Services program manager. “It was primarily for the purchase of books and reference materials. Preference was given to schools that demonstrated that their materials were aligned with the curriculum and were being purchased to support a collaborative unit. We especially looked for units and lessons that incorporated information literacy skills for all students.”
The grant money will be put to good use at each school.
Pinewood is using the money to buy science-related trade books, specifically books focusing on the rock cycle and soil composition. Librarian Mindy Holland said that she wrote the grant
because the science curriculum had changed and the school needed the new books to keep up. Bradt Library has ordered over 130 new books for their leveled reading library. Both libraries hope the new books will be on the shelves this spring.
