District
welcomes new director of facilities
Dec. 5, 2008
The Mohonasen community extends a warm welcome to the district's new director of facilities, Joe Mayo.
Mayo comes to the district from Shenendehowa, where he was the director of facilities for three years. Before that, he worked for the state Department of Health for 15 years as a plant engineer at the Axelrod Institute and Griffin Laboratories in Albany. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a main propulsion engineer for a number of years.
He says he is excited to oversee all aspects of maintenance and operations throughout the district, including the EXCEL building projects scheduled to get underway this summer.
"Even though we operate behind the scenes, the facilities are the first place where you see your tax dollars at work," Mayo said. "The positives are easy to ignore, but you are going to notice if your gym isn't clean or if there are cracks in the sidewalks."
Mayo fills the vacancy left by Ed Keith, who resigned from the post earlier this month.
