On April 8, Mohonasen High School’s SADD (Students Against Destructive
Decisions) chapter sponsored a “Battle of the Belts” competition,
as part of “Sean’s Run 2008.”
The Battle of the Belts is an exciting contest where four-person student teams compete to see who can achieve the fastest time buckling their seat belts. The competition is designed to change behaviors and attitudes about seat belt use among middle school and high school age students.
There were
approximately 80 participants in the Mohonasen
"Battle of the Belts" competition, making 18
teams.
Congratulations to the
fastest Mohonasen team, seniors Michael Mora, Chris
Marco, Alex Massaroni and Rob Claus,
who will go on to compete at Chatham High School on April 27 for the World “Battle of the Belts”
Championships!
2008 Sean’s Run Grant Winner
In February 2008, Mohonasen High School received a $400 grant from Sean’s Run.
This grant funded the Battle of the Belts competition at the high school, as well as
provided t-shirts for the winners.
Sean Patrick French, a 17-year old junior from Chatham High School, died as a
passenger in an alcohol-related accident on January 1, 2002. Sean was the nephew
of Mohonasen School Board President Eileen French. His family and friends host
Sean’s Run every year in his memory. The overall goal is to educate teens about the
dangers of alcohol-related accidents and not wearing a seat belt.
