NYSSMA SOLO FESTIVAL
May 30-31


Students should be making sure to purchase 2 original copies of their music for the NYSSMA festival.

When: Friday, May 30th and Saturday, May 31st
NYSSMA stands for New York State School Music Association.  NYSSMA is held every year all around New York State.  It provides an opportunity for students to perform for a certified NYSSMA adjudicator and receive valuable feedback on their performance and tips on how to improve their skills to become a better performer.  
Requirements:  All students must choose a piece from the NYSSMA manual between level 1 (being the easiest) to level 6 (most challenging).  Students are required to bring two original copies, no photocopies, of their solo piece.  Please order music in advance. NYSSMA is a very popular event across the region and many students will be looking for the same music.  Order your music now to be sure you have copies for your NYSSMA date.  In addition to performing their solo piece, students must prepare scales.  The scale requirements vary based on what level you are performing.  Levels 1 and 2 may choose any three one octave scales.  Levels 3 and 4 must know six scales, two of which must be in two octaves.  The judge will choose three scales out of those six for you to perform.  Levels 5 and 6 must know all major scales in two octaves.  The judge will choose three scales for you to perform.  The last requirement is sight-reading.  Students must perform a short excerpt of music to the best of their ability.  
Extra help: Miss K is available for any students that would like to receive extra help in preparing for a NYSSMA solo.  All students should sign up with Miss K for an appointment.
